As a recorder player, Lizzie’s work spans the realms of both old and new music, aiming to draw connections between these differing worlds through creative programming and collaboration.

A particular interest in working with composers has led to several commissioning projects over the past few years, including an ongoing project developing new solo and chamber repertoire for solo bass recorder. Lizzie was invited to perform at the Open Recorder Days Amsterdam fringe festival in July 2023, where she showcased an entire programme of new works for solo recorder and electronics written for her by Cem Güven, Andrea Balency-Béarn and Elliott Park.

Lizzie enjoys exploring the role of the recorder in unusual chamber partnerships, especially where these blur the boundaries between genres and art forms. A recent project “Floodplain”, at the Royal Academy of Music, saw four premieres for recorder, harp and narrator alongside photography and free improvisation, and Lizzie will continue to explore the relationship between musical performance and other art forms by co-curating an event for Deal Festival’s Poetry Day in summer 2024.

As Young Artist in Association for the Deal Music Festival 2024, Lizzie is excited to be curating several events across their summer festival period. This will include reimaginings of c18th French keyboard music, and a community outreach event in conjunction with local environmental organisation “Deal With It” and composer Helen Cordina.

Lizzie is also an accomplished interpreter of early music, recently performing at the REMA Early Music conference 2023 in Pavia, Italy, and in an all-Bach programme at the Wigmore Hall directed by Rachel Podger. The recorder has given Lizzie the opportunity to travel across the UK, Europe and further afield – including to Malta, where she performed with recorder quartet Palisander in the Valetta Baroque Festival in January 2023. When not playing the recorder, Lizzie can also be found moonlighting as a baroque bassoonist.

Lizzie studied recorder at the Royal Academy of Music, London, with Anna Stegmann and baroque bassoon with Peter Whelan. She was awarded the Rory Burcher Prize for the highest mark in Historical Performance for her Master’s degree recital, and the Max Edwards and Francis Borzello Recorder Prizes. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Birmingham.
